ESI’s Carpenter performs skilled carpentry work in constructing, repairing, and maintaining structures, furniture and fixtures; works with a variety of materials, mentors less experienced carpenters, and ensures compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safety practices on-site.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine materials and dimensions required.
  • Verify the trueness of structures.
  • Operate a variety of carpentry tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Select and prepare materials using tools such as saws, Sawzall, drills, impact drivers, and grinders under supervision.
  • Assemble and secure materials with nails, screws, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Construct frameworks, subflooring, partitions, millwork, and fixtures.
  • Install backing, blocking, plywood doors, and other structural components.
  • Assist Superintendents and General Foremen as needed.
  • Work varying shifts based on project requirements.
  • Build, repair, and install structures, frameworks, partitions, and other wood related fixtures using hand and power tools.
  • Measure, cut, and shape materials.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
  • Plan and execute carpentry projects, including estimating materials, labor, and equipment needs.
  • Lead small teams or assist in large-scale projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to design specifications.
  • Inspect completed work to identify and rectify errors or deficiencies.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced carpenters, providing hands-on training and support.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks assigned.
  • Assist other trades as needed to support department or project goals.

 

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in the construction industry (laborer or higher).
  • General knowledge of building construction, materials, means and methods, scheduling, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Demonstrate leadership, integrity, perseverance, reliability, respect, and self-discipline.
  • Personal motivation, initiative, and potential for growth.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others, whether individually or in a team environment, are vital aspects of the role.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including equipment guidelines, and company policies, are necessary to perform work safely and effectively.

 

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of what a Carpenter Level 2 will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • This role may occasionally require working in high, precarious places; near fumes or airborne particles; and handling toxic or caustic chemicals. There is also a risk of electrical shock and vibration in certain situations.
  • The work environment noise level is usually loud.

 

Physical Demands

  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle.
  • The role may involve extended hours on construction sites, necessitating physical stamina to move around the premises.
  • The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools is essential, with a minimum weight limit of 50lbs. These tasks may vary and are not required to be performed daily.
