The ESI Refrigeration Superintendent ensures that all safety programs, policies, and procedures are strictly adhered to across all projects. This role involves planning, organizing, and managing the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems to ensure they operate efficiently and safely. The Refrigeration Superintendent II is responsible for inspecting work in progress to confirm that workmanship meets the required specifications and that construction schedules are maintained. Additionally, this role oversees construction crews, providing leadership and guidance, while also assisting with construction tasks as necessary.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead a team of refrigeration technicians, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing guidance to ensure high-quality work and efficient operations.  

  • Plan and schedule daily tasks, maintenance activities, and repair work for the refrigeration team.  

  • Oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of various refrigeration systems, including commercial and industrial units, cold storage facilities, and HVAC-R systems.  

  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance departments to develop preventive maintenance schedules and strategies to optimize system performance and reduce downtime.  

  • Conduct regular inspections of refrigeration equipment, identifying and addressing potential issues to prevent system failures and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.  

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex refrigeration system problems, using advanced technical knowledge to develop effective solutions.  

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment maintenance schedules, and inventory of spare parts and supplies.  

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations in all refrigeration-related activities.  

  • Provide technical training and mentorship to refrigeration technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.  

  • Monitor energy consumption and implement energy-efficient practices to minimize operational costs.  

  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure necessary equipment, parts, and supplies for refrigeration projects.  

  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing proper safety procedures and protocols.  

  • Prepare and submit regular reports on the status of refrigeration projects, maintenance activities, and Assist the team in the installation of new refrigeration equipment and retrofitting existing systems.  

  • Support the team by any means necessary while acquiring knowledge of the trade.  

  • Help maintain and repair refrigeration equipment, as well as the maintenance of tools and equipment.  

  • Ensure the work site is always clean and organized.  

  • Comply with all Federal and State OSHA Standards, as well as ESI’s Safety Program.  

  • Work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and participate in on-call rotations as required.  

  • Assist with other ESI self-perform scopes outside of refrigeration when needed.  

  • Perform installation of PVC, PEX, and brazing of copper pipe.  

  • Physically move equipment with the assistance of tools and equipment. 

  • Perform tasks as directed by Foremen, Superintendents, and Construction Managers.  

  • Effectively install equipment and materials pertaining to refrigeration.  

  • Install, repair, test, and diagnose refrigeration equipment.  

  • Follow plans, specifications, and installation manuals.  

  • Perform refrigeration line pressure testing.  

  • Follow refrigeration safety protocols and procedures.  

 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • EPA 608 Type 3 Refrigeration License  

  • HVAC-R Journeymen License  

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Refrigeration Technician or similar role, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.  

  • OSHA 30  

  • In-depth knowledge of refrigeration systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.  

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team of technicians.  

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the capacity to make informed decisions under pressure.  

  • Solid understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to refrigeration systems.  

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members, vendors, and management.  

  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.  

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.  

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.  

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. 

 

Working Conditions 

  • This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions.  

  • The role may occasionally require working in high, precarious places; near fumes or airborne particles; and handling toxic or caustic chemicals. There is also a risk of electrical shock and vibration in certain situations.  

  • The work environment noise level is usually loud. 

 

Physical Demands 

  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle.  

  • The role may involve extended hours on construction sites, necessitating physical stamina to move around the premises.  

  • The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools is essential, with a maximum weight limit of 50lbs. These tasks may vary and are not required to be performed daily.  

  • Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others, whether individually or in a team environment, are vital aspects of the role.  

  • Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies, are necessary for performing work safely and effectively. 

 

Travel Requirements 

  • Will be required to work on project sites both within and outside of the Boise metropolitan area, and or in other states.  

  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle, and or airplane.  

  • This position requires the employee to reliably travel utilizing their personal vehicle.
