The Traveling Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems on commercial construction projects located throughout the United States. This position performs plumbing work in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, company standards, and safety requirements. The Traveling Plumber works closely with project management, field supervision, and other trades to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and with a high level of quality.  This role requires frequent travel, the ability to adapt to changing jobsite conditions, and a commitment to representing ESI professionally while working at customer and project locations nationwide and abroad.

This is a traveling position supporting Federal project sites both within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS).

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair plumbing systems, including water, waste, vent, storm drainage, and specialty piping systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, drawings, and project documents.
  • Measure, cut, thread, assemble, and install pipe and plumbing materials using hand and power tools.
  • Install plumbing fixtures, equipment, valves, pumps, water heaters, and related components.
  • Perform underground and above-ground piping installation.
  • Conduct pressure tests, inspections, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve plumbing issues.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and other trades to maintain project schedules.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Complete daily reports, time records, and other required project documentation.

 

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Plumber license preferred; equivalent experience considered where licensing requirements vary by state.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of commercial plumbing installation experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes, safety requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Proficient with plumbing tools, equipment, and installation techniques.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in commercial, industrial, or multi-site construction projects.
  • Experience with medical gas, industrial piping, or specialty systems.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain/maintain access to Federal job sites; a clean background is required.
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance or TS/SCI eligibility preferred. 

 

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of what Traveling Plumber will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • This role may occasionally require working in high, precarious places; near fumes or airborne particles; and handling toxic or caustic chemicals. There is also a risk of electrical shock and vibration in certain situations.
  • The work environment noise level is usually loud.

 

Physical Demands

  • Flexibility in working hours may be required, including evening and weekend work as needed.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and elevated work platforms.
  • Must perform physically demanding work while maintaining safety standards.

 

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 100% travel depending on project assignments.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and adjusted schedules as required by project needs.
  • Ability to stay overnight or for extended durations at out-of-state project locations.
  • Travel to and work at Federal project sites both CONUS and OCONUS as required, including a valid passport where OCONUS travel applies.
