SkillBridge Field Engineer Program

ESI’s SkillBridge Field Engineer Program provides a hands-on opportunity designed to transition Active Duty Service Members into the commercial construction industry through real-world jobsite experience. Participants support active construction projects by assisting Superintendents and site teams with daily operations, field documentation, subcontractor coordination, safety enforcement, quality control, and schedule support while upholding ESI’s standards for safety and quality. The program combines on-the-job training with structured instruction led by experienced field leadership, providing exposure to construction fundamentals, drawings, RFIs, site layout, materials management, and jobsite leadership

 

Training Outcomes

By the end of the program, the SkillBridge participant will demonstrate proficiency in: 

  • Commercial construction means & methods

  • Field documentation and drawing control

  • Safety enforcement (OSHA & company standards)

  • Subcontractor coordination and communication

  • Schedule support and look-ahead planning

  • Site layout, elevations, and quality control

  • Leadership and supervision of field labor

 

Qualifications 

  • Must be an Active Duty Service member in the United States Military.

  • Must be approved, or be able to attain approval, for a 60-90 day minimum SkillBridge opportunity.

  • Demonstrate leadership, integrity, perseverance, reliability, respect, self-discipline, dedication, and dependability.  
  • Possesses organizational skills and is detail-oriented.  

  • Demonstrates personal motivation, initiative, and potential for growth.  

  • Can work independently with minimal supervision and limited direction.  

  • Shows an aptitude for management and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.  

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.  

  • Limited knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs; specifically, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.  
  • Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, and others, whether individually or in a team environment, are vital aspects of the role. 
  • Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies, are necessary for performing work safely and effectively. 

 

Working Conditions 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of what Field Engineer will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.  

  • Fast-paced working environment.  

  • Working environment may be busy and noisy.  

  • This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions.  

  • This role may occasionally require working in high, precarious places; near fumes or airborne particles; and handling toxic or caustic chemicals. There is also a risk of electrical shock and vibration in certain situations.  

  • The work environment noise level is usually loud. 

 

Physical Demands 

  • This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle.  

  • The role may involve extended hours on construction sites, necessitating physical stamina to move around the premises.  

  • The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools is essential, with a maximum weight limit of 50lbs. These tasks may vary and are not required to be performed daily. 

 

Travel Requirements 

  • Travel required based on project location.
